چکیده

The inner three arcminutes surrounding the Class 0/1 binary protostar L1551 IRS5 have been observed using the J = 1 → 0 transitions of the HCO, HCO, CO and CO molecular species. Since the line core of HCO is self reversed over a substantial part of our map, observations of isotopomers such as HCO are required in order to estimate the mass of the molecular gas in the immediate vicinity of IRS5. Our observations demonstrate the presence of a large (∼7000 AU radius) dense, possibly rotating, molecular disk with a mass of a few M oriented perpendicular to the major axis of an extended molecular outflow. The disk is surrounded by an envelope with a radius of ∼10 000 AU that contains two massive (each ∼1 M ) clumps. One of these features appears to be kinematically disconnected from both the disk and the molecular outflow.

Multiple Bipolar Molecular Outflows from the L 1551 IRS 5 Protostellar System

The multiple protostellar system L1551 IRS5 exhibits a large-scale bipolar molecular outflow that spans ∼1.5 pc on both the NE (redshifted) and SW (blueshifted) sides of the system. We have studied this outflow within ∼4000 AU of its driving source(s) with the SubMillimeter Array. Our CO(2–1) image at ∼4 (∼560 AU) resolution reveals three distinct components: 1) an X-shaped structure spanning ∼...

Methanol in the L1551 Circumbinary Torus

We report observations of gaseous methanol in an edge-on torus surrounding the young stellar object L1551 IRS5. The peaks in the torus are separated by ∼ 10,000 AU from L1551 IRS5, and contain ∼ 0.03 M⊕ of cold CH3OH. We infer that the CH3OH abundance increases in the outer part of the torus, probably as a result of methanol evaporation from dust grain surfaces heated by the shock luminosity as...

The Circumbinary Outflow: A Protostellar Outflow Driven by a Circumbinary Disk

The protostellar outflow is star’s first cry at the moment of birth. The outflows have indispensable role in the formation of single stars, because they carry off the excess angular momentum from the centre of the shrinking gas cloud, and permits further collapse to form a star. On the other hand, a significant fraction of stars is supposed to be born as binaries with circumbinary disk that are...

Most young low-mass stars are born as binary systems, and circumstellar disks have recently been observed around the individual components of proto-binary systems (e.g. L1551-IRS5). Thus planets and planetary systems are likely to form around the individual stellar components in sufficiently wide binary systems. However, a good fraction of planets born in binary systems will in the long run be ...
